The Club

The 2019-2020 group

The club is based in Holtzwihr, France (near Colmar), a small village of 1,500 inhabitants.

At the end of 2016, several members of the current Aruzasu Karate committee wanted to get together to talk about their future in karate.

After several discussions among them, the idea of founding a club together came to them.  The main idea was to offer the opportunity to everyone to practice this sport not yet sufficiently known but also to be able to train for competition freely.  After discussion among the members, we decided to choose the name “Aruzasu Karate” to highlight our region and the region of origin of this sport, Aruzasu meaning Alsace in Japanese.

The 2017-2018 season had started slowly but the project took shape with about twenty members, several new karatekas but also old ones who bring their experience and knowledge.

The 2018-2019 season sees the opening of a Baby Karate class (3-5 years old).  Baby Karate is a course combining the basic elements of karate (respect, fist and foot techniques, …) with elements specific to the under 6s (proprioception, flexibility, interaction with other children, …).  With the high demand for this one, the club decided to open a second class.  This year is also synonymous with a strong growth since we have reached about sixty members.

The 2019-2020 season will be rich in development.  First of all, we have decided to open Krav Maga classes in collaboration with our partner KM SW.  Krav Maga means “close combat” in Hebrew, it is a sport that teaches self-defense in a simple and effective way, which is why it is now used by a large part of the armed forces and police units around the world.  Our coaching team has also grown: Franck MARCHESE joined us as a coach for students wishing to do competitive Karate fighting and another coach joined us to train children and adults wishing to practice Shotokan Karate.  In November 2019, Aruzasu Karate already has one hundred and twenty members and its new competitors won a gold medal and a total of five podiums during the first competition of the season.
